Issues of Concern to NFA Members:
Farmers having to upgrade Gas Meters
by Issues Committee
If you've been approached by Union Gas and need an upgrade to your gas meter the NFA is suggesting that you request an 'Engineers Report' to see if the need for an upgrade is required. This report will show the need for safety and fuel efficency.
Many farmers, (seems like mostly tobacco farmers) having been approached by Union Gas to upgrade their meters. The increased hourly loads required customer upgrades varying in cost from $350 up to $9,500. Union claims the average cost to date is $1,200.
The Norfolk Federation of Agriculture is working with the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) to find out more on the incurred costs to farmers. If you would like to speak to someone at the OEB, please call Chris Mackie (416) 440-7632. Your calls are important, explain your stituation in great detail to Mr. Whiteman.
